About Jo Melia
It’s all a work in progress. I think that’s the biggest and most profound saying that accurately describes, every single moment in time.
For me anyway, knowing that everything is a work in progress has allowed me more space to create. More time for the acceptance of changes and to find a flow with movement and peace.
In my work I choose to allow a considered connection with the paints and media I use. Their natural flow determines the shape and overall texture of the pieces. Other than that, the rest is how I work with those movements, and how I see the shapes which form organically and work within their natural limits.
I’ve always been excited by colour palettes, whether it be in the photographs I take, or the faces I paint - colour palettes and their unity give me a feeling of interconnection and peace.
So I choose these carefully, sometimes working with a limited palette, but always inspired by the natural landscapes and scenes around me in Yorkshire.
As I get older, I notice much more of a tether to the earth, the sea and the sky. Watching the seasons change and feeling each of those changes in the colours and textures surrounding me is always my inspiration.
I hope that you enjoy how I see the world and the joy that comes from always being curious about the possibilities.
